Question
My 4 yr old yorkie was bread on March 1, 2 and 3. She had an xray last week and is expecting 4 pups. She is eating, drinking, urinating and having normal bowel movements. I feel movement on boths sides of her abdomen. Her vulva is not swollen and I noted some scant mucus discharge, clear to white in last few days, the mucus plug was shed over a week ago. 5 days ago I noted some clear to tan odorless fluid that I thought came from her vagina, it was not urine or diarrhea. She is tired however energenic to go on walks. She is in no distress. Abdomen is soft and firm at different times. She has been nesting off and on for the last 2 weeks. My last contact with the vet was 3 days ago and I was to told since she is in no apparent distress that I should wait. Her temp went from 101 to 98 a week ago and then went back to the 99s. For the last 2 days her temp is 98.2. So the temp thing isn't working for us. Just how long should I wait to contact the vet if she doesn't have the pups today? How long is toooo long.

Answer
Hi. It sounds like your girl is getting ready. If she's not in distress, and everything seems fine, then I would give her until tomorrow and then put a call in to the vet. If he poo-poos you away, find another vet. It's common for a dog to go a day or so over her due date, but if she goes past day 65, I would definitely get her in to the vet. Good luck!
