Question
my babies
my babies
my 2 year old chiwawa/terrier mix got locked up with our male full blooded chiwawa by accident but this is her second time in heat so thats good right?? im just worried that she will die while giving birth i cant have kids of my own so she is my child and i would be devastated if something happened. Im excited that she is goin to have pups but i blame myself if anything happens bc i didnt keep a good watch on her while she was in heat. so if anyone has any answers or could help me out on anything bc this will be my first litter as well hers, and how many puppies do u think she will have and do i need to keep the daddy away from her and the pups? i posted a pic so yall could see how big they are and let me know if her size might be a problem

Answer
Hi Nicole

There is no reason to assume the female would have issues whelping a litter.  I would however, contact your vet and have x-rays at around day 55 to determine the number of pups and the size.

It depends on the number of eggs that are released to determine the number of pups.

The male should be kept away from the female and the pups until the pups are older (6-8 weeks).  The female requires a box to whelp her litter lined with old towels located in a quiet room or area where she can safely and comfortable rear her young.

Good luck
