Answer
Hi Linda:

I was just checking the question pool on this site & came across your question. I don't know if you're still in need of an answer but thought I'd chime in just in case you were. It sounds as if what you described as the ball of water that proceeded the puppy was her water breaking. If so, this is normal & you will probably see it again with this litter, providing she's standing when it's expelled. If she's sitting or lying when it's passed, it may look more like a spreading puddle of fluid with some tissue and perhaps a few blood streaks. Usually once the water breaks the first puppy will be born within half an hour to an hour. Hope this helps!
