QUESTION: hello and thank you for your input for all of us my pitbull dajah is 1 1/2 years old and this is her first time our 10 month old sire hooked with her four times 11 12 14 and don't remember the last they two time was not suppose to happen the last time I was like what is going on because I had no idea she was still in heat well my questions are first she is 52 days from the first hook i can feel pups but she has a couple drops of clear discharge, she want eat that much at all she will her treats but not her food i bought sportmans pride dog food what she always eats and she don't want it and also i made her spot in the walk in closet but she only goes in there if I'm in there with her and sometimes by herself but not much is all of this normal at 52 days?

ANSWER: Hi Crystal

The discharge is normal.  The mucus plug will start to discharge up to 10 days prior to whelping.  As long as it's clear there is no issues, you want to ensure it doesn't turn black or greenish.

You may want to entice her with raw food, heart, liver kidney, cooked chicken.  You need to keep her energy up. The food replacement drink Ensure, will also help.

"A spot in the closet" although very nice, may not be what she needs/wants.  A whelping box where she can safely whelp her pups is ideal and an enclosed area like the box, will deter her from moving and hiding her pups all over the house.

Good luck

QUESTION: thanks she has ate more today so I'm happy and now she is going to the closet she has been in there all day so maybe she knows its getting close thanks again for your help.im sorry for  asking but its my first time and i want to know everything so i can give her the best she came from a litter of 9 and sire came from a litter of 8 so I'm guessing she will have from 7 to 9 now her milk is feeling really good but the two close to her head don't have much is this normal?

Answer
Those are the teats with the milk last to come in, but once the pups are sucking the milk should start flowing.

If she's still a days away, you want to keep checking her teats to make sure they don't become impacted.  If they become red and hot that is a sign of trouble.  And if that happens a warm compress or standing in a tub of warm water will help ease the pain.
