i had a yorkie female go into labor at 8 in the morning. by six that night she had 2 healthy puppies. during the night no more puppies and she sleep thru the night. she had no fever no pain. i took her outside the next morning for a walk and within 5 minutes she was on the ground with what i could only calla seizure. we rushede her to the vet. that was 830 in the morning. they gave her oxy 2 times 20 minutes apart. by 1230 they decided to do a c-section. only to find the uterus torn and a puppy in the ab. they sent her home by 500 that evening with instructions of fluids and pain meds and penc. is their something i missed. the dog is only 2 years old and only her second litter. she is about 7 lbs.

Hi Pat. First of all, I'm sorry that you and your dog went through that. It was your quick action that saved her life. I would question why the vet would give the shot after the dog had a seizure. There are a few things that can cause a ruptured uterus. In your case, it may be because of prolonged contractions. I'd say that the shot didn't help things either. I'm not a vet however, and wasn't there with you. You may want to talk to a different vet, and get more opinions about this, and what could have caused it. It's definitely not something that you did. It may have had nothing to do with what the vet did. I'd be asking questions though. Breeding dogs is very risky, and sometimes things happen for no apparent reason. That's something that a breeder has to be prepared to deal with. Reproduction problems can run in certain lines. You may want to check into that. I hope your girl and the puppies are doing good.
