Bella, Jasper, and Die
QUESTION: Hey Renee! Thanks for helping me out with my chihuahuas pregnancy almost 7 weeks ago. They are getting bigger by the day. I love watching them grow. OK here is the question...my bitch is bleeding only when the pups try to nurse (the actually started  weening about 2 in a half weeks old an now eat puppy food other then in the mourning they seem they want to nurse. My bitch never produced enough milk and they hated the milk supplement but they are healthy lol. But anyway is the bleeding normal or should she not be bleeding anymore and we kinda keep her and my male locked away from each other because he tries to tie with her does that mean she is in heat again. We are trying to get the money together and when we do they are all going to the vet. Here is a pic of all 3 pups thanks again for your help Renee!!!!

ANSWER: Hi! I'm glad everyone is doing good. You guys did a great job. Bleeding this early isn't normal. I honestly would think that she would be back in heat this soon, but I can't say for sure that she's not. Does she stand and let him try to mount her, or how does she act? What does the blood look like, and is her vulva swollen any?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: NO HER VULVA IS NOT SWOLLEN ANY! SHE WILL LAY DOWN FOR HIM LIKE SHE IS PLAYING. LIKE SHE WILL ROLL TO HER BACK AND WHEN HE DOES TRY TO MOUNT HER OR LICK HER SHE DONT REALLY STOP HIM BUT DONT REALLY LET HIM EITHER. THE ONLY TIME ANYONE HAS NOTICED THE BLOOD IS RIGHT AFTER THE PUPS TRY TO NURSE ON HER. COULD THAT CAUSE HER TO STILL BLEED? I MEAN SHE DON'T DO IT ALL THE TIME AND IT IS NOT A LOT BUT BEFORE SHE GOT PREGNANT AND WAS IN HEAT SHE DID NOT BLEED ALL THAT MUCH THEN EITHER. HER ATTITUDE THOUGH IS WORSE. SHE IS NOT MEAN BUT SHE GETS INTO THINGS A LOT WORSE THEN WHAT SHE US TO. IF YOU LET HER OUT WITHOUT A LEASH THE ONLY WAY SHE WILL GO POTTY SHE RUNS OFF NOW ALL THE TIME. WELL I GUESS I CAN NOT SAY SHE IS NOT MEAN CAUSE SHE BITE MY LITTLE BROTHER ONE DAY WHEN HE WAS WALKIN DOWN THE HALL. IF SHE IS OUTSIDE SHE WILL CHASE A CAT SHE NEVER DID THAT BEFORE. SHE WILL GROWL OR BARK WITH A GROWL AT ANYONE WALKING BY OR IF THEY ARE ON A BIKE OR RUN SHE WILL GO AFTER THEM. I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT HAS GOTTEN INTO HER. I MAINLY KEEP HER IN HER CAGE OTHER THEN TO EAT, DRINK AND GO POTTY CAUSE SHE IS JUST A MESS WHEN SHE IS NOT IN THERE.

Answer
yeah, I'd get her checked out. Breeding a dog can change it's temperament. And she may be protecting her small puppies. Hormones make them crazy.:-) Seriously though, you need to get a handle on her behavior, especially the biting. Talk to your vet, or maybe a behaviorist as to why she's acting this way, and what you can do to prevent it. Good luck!
