Question
Our chocolate lab has been bred and is expecting her puppies around november 15th. She is filling our nicely and things are going fine except her water intake has really increased. I fill her bowl a few times a day. Can this be a sign of something to be of concern? Her appetite has also increased as expected. Our main worry is about the water. At what age should the  babies be vaccinated and dew claws removed?

Answer
She may just need the extra water to meet the demand of a growing litter. However, just to be on the safe side, I would recommend taking her to the vet for a check up. Just to keep mom and babies safe. It may be nothing at all, but I'd have everything checked out when a dog is pregnant. It can get expensive, but it's worth it! :-)

Most vets will do the dew claws when they're a few days old. I personally start the puppies on their shots when they're 6 weeks old. I believe that's the norm. If I can be of anymore help, let me know!:-)
