Question
My daughter has a female Chihuahua that has just completed her first cycle.  She also has a male that is 11 weeks old. The mother and father are the same for both litters.  Is there any problem breeding the two Chihuahuas' when the male is of age?

Answer
Hi. This type of inbreeding is the strongest form of inbreeding. A person that wants to attempt this type of breeding has to know what is behind their dogs: health, conformation, and temperament wise, and I don't mean just how mom and dad were. They have to know many dogs in the pedigree to know what they are passing on to the puppies. This really needs to be done by someone who has a lot of experience with breeding, dogs, and pedigrees, and I'm not saying this to be mean but with this type of breeding, you really have to know what you're doing. If she wants to breed her girl, she can always look for a suitable stud for her. Good luck!
