Have a female black mouth cur, she only comes into season once a year, and will only have one or two puppies. Is there a way to make her cycle more frequently? Is there a way to increase egg production?

Hi Brandi. I had a female once that would only go into heat once a year. I LOVED this dog. It was very convienant to have a dog that only cycled once a year, especially since a bitch is only suppose to be bred once a year. I don't know of anything that will bring a dog into heat, except for maybe another bitch in heat. You can ask your vet if there's anything that can safely be used, but I don't think there is. As for egg production, that's up to the female, and there's nothing you can do about that. Mom decides on how many, dad decides the sex. The best thing that you can do to try to help with egg production is to make sure that mom is on a healthy diet, and is very healthy herself. You may want to have her thyroid checked out. Good luck!
