Question
QUESTION: Hi,

I asked you the other day for some advice on my choclate lab bitch who was in day 14 of her season and didnt seem interested in the stud.

We tried mating them again today on day 16 but she wouldn't comply. He was extremely keen to mount her and you could see how swollen he was from producing the sperm for her but every time he tried to mount her she would move and growl at him. The breeder suggests we try again in 48hrs which will be day 18, what would you suggest??

ANSWER: I wouldn't wait 48 hours, maybe every 24.   For a difficult female like yours, I would suggest progesterone testing or A.I.

QUESTION: Hi Joyce,

How long would you keep trying for? As in what day would you go up to? Also her blood is still very red and hasn't at any point through the season been pale.

Answer
Okay wait.  She's on day 14 and she's still bleeding?  Hmmmm is it a lot of blood?

Typically what happens is a female will swell, she'll bleed for a week THEN be ready to breed.  Spotting is okay but she shouldn't still be bleeding.

Is her vulva pushed out?
