Question
I recently purchased a pug puppy.  When I received his three generations papers, I noticed that the puppy's mother and father are half brother and sister.  Different mothers, same father.  Is that a problem?  Thanks for your time and expertise.

Answer
Hi. Brother/sister breeding is the most potent form of inbreeding. With any type of inbreeding, the breeder really needs to know their dogs, and know what's behind them. Inbreeding can be a good tool for those who know what they're doing, it can set type. However, inbreeding brings out the best and the worst. I would contact your breeder and talk to them about any health issues that they may have in their line. Some breeders don't like to talk about it, so my best advice would be to be friendly and non judgemental. This will help you get the answers you need. Good luck!
