Question
Thank you for this service!!  My boxer has 10 puppies and I am worried about the smaller ones getting enough to eat. Is a newborn formula from the pet store okay? Should I just give the little ones extra or all of them?

Answer
Hi Jenny

How old are the pups?  For a litter of 10, or any large litter,  I rotate the pups.  (5 on 5 off) Use a timer and give them an hour on and the little ones can stay longer. Leave them with the dam all night and if you want, supplement before bedtime.  If you do it this way, the little ones have a better chance of catching up quickly.

This ensures they get Momma's milk, which there really is no substitute for, and the dam gets a chance to clean and inspect each pup.

You can use a puppy replacement formula, (not human), goats milk is good (some pups have a hard time digest cow's milk).

Good luck
