Question
QUESTION: hi i was wondering whats the earliest age a white female pitbull goes in heat for the first time and how many months does it take for her to go into her second....becuz a family is moving and i am trying to figure out what age she is...they said she's been in heat only once...and she doesnt look no more than 5 or 6 months...so is it possible for her to had been in heat yet?

ANSWER: Hi Terrell

Typically a female will come into heat the first time between 6 and 9 months old.  Then every 6 - 9 months after.

Your vet should be able to determine her age by her teeth.

Good luck.

QUESTION: ok thankz....and what would be the best food for her at about 6months old...and is it possible that they go in heat pretty early?

ANSWER: They can go into a "pre-heat" which is swelling about a month before they go into a full blown standing heat.

If you plan on using her for a breeding female, you want to ensure that she has the very best in vitamins, food and exercise.   A high quality food like Timberwolf or Solid Gold is a good start and Omega 3-6-9's or fish oils to help boast her immune system.

Check her out for traits that you don't want in your lines, with a white dog you want to make sure that she isn't prone to deafness or blindness (including her littermates).  Also mange is rampant in Pits so you want to make sure she isn't a carrier.

Good luck.

QUESTION: my pitbull has minor scratches around his nose and on his back legs whats the best way to get rid off them....and it looks like fleas are irratating his his skin...she's about 14months....and whats the best food can i feed her because out this way there is no timberwolf or solid gold....is pedigree good?

Answer
Are the scratches due to mange? If you dogs are showing any signs of skin irritations, I wouldn't use them in a breeding program.

I personally wouldn't feed my dogs Pedigree, there are too many excellent choices, many a higher quality,  dog food available. With skin issues I would stay away from beef and chicken and find a fish based food.

You want to get rid of the fleas immediately. Fleas are carriers of disease and you can loose an entire litter. Garlic will help with fleas, a tsp of crushed garlic mixed in the food will help.
