Question
Hey, I had 3 dogs for the longest time untill this past monday one dog got put down because she was old and the other died in his sleep at the hospital because he was very sick. Now my dog emma ( short haired collie 5 yrs old) is all by her self and we noticed that she was sad. So we thought that it might be a good idea to bring home a new pet. Well, we adopted a (shepard/lab mix male 1yr old) and very playfull like the other dogs we had. And well Emma dosent seem to like him very much.  She hids from him and hissis at him. He is bigger than her but not by much. I need to know if this is just a phase and if she will end up getting along with him. and how can i help ?

Answer
The best is to start socializing them slowly, away from the yard and the house.  Where was she in the old pack?

Make sure you treat her like the alpha, feeding her first, greeting her first, letting her out first, etc.

Pushing or forcing them together will have the opposite effect.  You can't make her like him, she has to come to that point on her own.

Good luck.
