Female pitbulls in heat

My female pitbull is a year old and has not had her first heat yet can you tell me why,also is a hormone shot the best thing to do

Hi LaConta.  Just like with humans, some dogs can be "late bloomers".  I really don't believe in hormone shots, and would suggest that you wait until she is ready.
