Lab/Chihuaha breeding

Question
My 2 year old yellow lab in in heat and we are planning on breeding her with a chocolate this week on day 13, 14, 15.  We have a black and white chihuaha male who will not leave our yard.  He has dug under our fence and managed to squeeze himself in between the bars to get to her....For the last couple days she has been whining to get out and yesterday morning I found them in the corner of the yard with her laying down and him at her back end humping her.  She was obviously "helping him out" by laying down for him.  Could they have succesfully bred?  I am worried about that!  It would have been day 6 and 7 that this happened.  We can't keep him out of our yard and his owners refuse to keep him in theirs...Thanks for any help!

Answer
They very well could have bred. It's untelling if it will take or not, seeing as how they bred pretty early. Some girls ovulate early in their cycle however. See if she's flagging. Run your hand over her backend above her tail. If she swishes her tail to the side, she's flagging. Check her bleeding. If it's lighter in color, and the flow has slowed, then she may be ready to be bred. It's kind of hard to tell you what to do here. I would definitely suggest either doing something about your fence, or consider talking to some sort of law enforcement about the roving male. Your neighbors probably wouldn't like it if your dog was running in their yard. See if maybe animal control or something can talk to them about keeping their dog on their side. Besides that, you can really only hope that she didn't take. Talk to your vet and see what he thinks. See if he has any better options for you. I can't in good faith here tell you to go ahead with the planned breeding. That's your choice. That's why I suggest that you talk to your vet. This heat cycle may be shot. You may have to wait until the next one to breed her to the other lab. I know how frustrating it is, and I'm sorry. If I can be of anymore help, please let me know!
