Maltese breeding size

Question
Could be a dumb question. We want to breed out 3 1/2 year old Maltese on her next heat cycle but we're worried about the size of the male. She's 5 1/2 lbs, will anything larger than her pose seriously health issues? If so what?

Hi Denise -- in any breed the males are usually larger than the females so there will be some difference.

What you don't want to do is feed her puppy food to make the pups grow larger in utero.  Best to keep her on high quality kibble and everything will be fine.
