Answer
They very well could've bred. It can be dangerous to leave two dogs unattended. Usually, the female's bleeding will slow down and lighten in color when she's actually in the right time of her cycle to be bred, or ovulates. That's how many breeders know when it's time to breed. Average breeding days are on days 9-16, with 12 and 14 the most common. A good indication that a breeding took and the female may be pregnant, is that when the female is completely out of heat, her vulva will remain slightly larger than it was before her heat cycle. This is what some breeders look for. However, all females are different, and it's really hard to tell for sure that she's pregnant or not until it's close to the end. Then you may have an x-ray done to tell for sure.
