Question
i have a pit bull choc lab mix and she just gave birth to 11 pups 2 days ago and she is very quiet and doesnt like going outside to go to the bathroom. she would rather stay with her pups all the time. we are having trouble getting her to drink water and sometimes we cant get her to eat. she is still bleeding but not that bad. is any of this a problem? please help this is my first time with a litter of pups and im not sure of the health problems thats can happen after pregnancy.

Answer
Hi Nichole. You can try to put some beef broth on her food, or even some plain vanilla ice cream and see if she takes to that. The not drinking thing has me concerned. Not wanting to leave her pups is normal, it will lessen as the pups grow older. Try the broth or ice cream. If she doesn't start eating and drinking soon, I'd get her to the vet for a check up, she has to eat and drink to produce milk and keep her strength. Is she doing anything else at all that you would call odd?
