RAT TERRIER THAT DOESNT SHOW DISCHARGE DURING PROESTRUS

Question
I have a 2 year old Rat that I recently rescued. I was told that she does not show any signs of being in heat when I got her, and I thought there would certainly be some outward sign.... But it's looking like they were correct because I think she has started her first cycle. There is no swelling and I have caught her licking herself very frequently today... Are there any other outward signs to judge With a rat terrier? I want to make sure that she goes to work with me to ensure that she doesn't get pregnant if she has indeed started. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you .

Answer
Well, the easiest way to know for sure if she is in season if you believe she is, is a Progesterone test. Licking can be a sign, but it can also be a sign of a UTI. My girl scootches her behind in the grass for a week or so before she comes in, but this is subjective to her.

Either way, it may be best to just bring her in to have her spayed before you have to deal with all of this mess.

I'm surprised a rescue would have been let go unaltered, spaying and neutering is always the first thing we do in rescue.
