dog breeding age

how old is a cavalier before he knows what to do when it comes to breeding as he is a year old now and my bitch has fully broke down and he doesn't seem to know what he is doing

It's because he's inexperienced. He's never done it before, so he doesn't know how. Dogs aren't born with that knowledge. It takes maturity and time. I'd wait until he was older, atleast another 6 months, preferably a year. If you do this, and he's still not sure, use a teaser male. Put him where he can see what's going on, but won't be able to get to the other dogs. Put another male on a leash, and allow him to 'play' with the female in heat. Just don't let them actually breed. (Have someone else with you if you try this to help control the dogs.) Tis will usually show a male what he's suppose to do, and get him in gear.
