Question
I have a beagle in labor.....she has had two puppies but has not delivered any in the last hour and a half. she still seems to be in labor...she is contracting and howling. how far apart should she be having the puppies? how do i know if she is in need of assistance or if one is stuck?

Answer
Hi Brittany

Two hours seems to be the norm between pups.  However, if she's been straining, pushing and howling, that can be a sign of distress.

Stand her up and take her for a short walk, you may need to put her on a leash and walk her around the yard.

If that doesn't help, a trip to the vet may be in order.

Good luck
