1st. heat

Question
I have a 5 month old yorkie and she is in heat now. Isn't that really early for her? She is very small and I do not want to breed her yet. I have a male and he is following her around everywhere.

It's not unusual for small breed dogs to come into heat by or before six months of age. Just make SURE your boy doesn't get to her. She is entirely too young to be bred. Belly banding him will help, panties on her will help, separating them will insure there is no breeding. It's difficult but unfortunately sometimes necessary.
