My Pointer

we adopted our pointer, Gunner, from the spca about a week ago. he has been breathing heavily, but i dident think it was serious. we let him inside from the cold 40 degree weather into the house. he was sitting on the floor and and all of the sudden he started shaking. i thought he was just cold from outside. a minnute later he was breathing very heavily and rapidly, like gasping for air. i went over to pet him, and he stop. the panting was for about 20 secconds. i am very worried about him. do you know whats wrong???

Sounds like he's in pain, or possibly having a seizure. You need to call and speak with a rep from the SPCA where you adopted him and with the vet who evaluated him. If possible take him into the vet at the SPCA for another evaluation. How long had he been outside?
Definitely need to get a vet check in case it happens to be epilepsy or something pain related.
