Question
My mini dachshund was bred and there were problems with the delivery. She began pushing at 3am on a Friday. That was when I saw fluid the first time. She pushed for awhile, I saw more fluid each time, then she just stopped. I took her to my vet on Friday afternoon and she said to give her more time because the pups were fine (strong heartbeats, none in distress, all lined up for proper delivery), she was fine, no one was in distress and they would probably be born sometime during the night. I sat up with her all night and the pups still did not come and the pushing was erratic. I contacted the breeder Saturday morning who had me bring my dog to her. She stayed with her that day and Saturday afternoon when there were still no pups she took my dog to her vet. Her vet said he didn't think she'd started true labor yet. When the pups had still not come by Sunday morning, the breeder took her back to her vet. Her vet gave my dog meds to get her contractions going and 7:30 Sunday night when she'd still not delivered, he did a c-section and all the puppies were dead. I have more than one question. First, I don't think she should be bred again, but since the breeder paid the bill, she wants to breed her again to get the puppies to sell and get her money back - which is understandable, but with all of that the first time, she shouldn't be bred again should she? Second, if she is bred again what is the likely hood of her having to have a c-section again? Third, was it not a bit negligent for the breeder's vet to wait so long to do the c-section? Lastly, this was 2 weeks ago that she had the c-section and she's still bleeding from her vulva, not surgery site, when should this bleeding stop?

Answer
in my past experience if i have a female not progressing i take her for a short walk and give her a tums. the tums usually bring harder contractions. just because she had problems the first time doesnt mean she would have them again. i think where the vet went wrong was giving her the meds first. the meds thay give seperate the placenta from the pups and if not delivered then they will die. i will not ever let them give my dogs those meds, i try home remedies and after all that i will just go in for a c_section. but between walking, hot baths, and tums i usually dont have any c_sections. i do believe this vet is at fault and the person that took her and let them give her the meds. anywhere you look online says after they give those meds and all pups arent born then they will die. you can breed her again but i suggest her staying in you care through delivery of pups. i hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions you may have.
