Question
How can we tell if our female, Shea, is in labor. She is a rescue and we don't have any health infor on her. We recently took her to the vet. She's OK but we are not sure of what to watch for in preparing for her delivery.mlvwf

Answer
At first, she should start to pant, a lot. She may start to dig like crazy at everything, she'll probably try to find some place to hide. She may even go off of her feed. About 24-48 hours before she goes into labor, she should loose her mucus plug. It's kind of like a clear, gunky, stringie stuff that comes from her vulva. These are the first signs to watch for. If she should get a colored discharge before the birth of the first puppy, call the vet immediately. If I can be of anymore help, please let me know!
