Question
i have both mum and dad and they live together full time is it safe for me to keep things as they are when puppies arrive. ive been told by people that she may attack pups and maybe even dad if he is around after pups are born.

Answer
Hi Pauline

It's always advisable to give a new mother a safe and quiet environment when her pups arrive.

Females will become protective of their young and males may not always be as caution and careful of the pups.  You have to worry about them being stepped on them. I like to introduce the males to the pups around 5 to 6 weeks.

Have a whelping box ready in a room where she can enjoy the pups without worrying about constant visitors.

You know your females personality best -- if she hasn't shown signs of aggression or instability chances are she'll be fine. But it's always better to be safe than sorry.
