Question
Hi
Our 2 year old English springer spaniel gave birth to her first litter 5 week ago and we've noticed her fur has all but disappeared under her tummy and is very thin on the rest of her. Is this natural and is there anything we can do to help it back at a quicker rate?

Thanks

Paul.

Answer
Hi Paul

It's very common for a dam to lose her hair.  She's giving her all to the nursing pups and she doesn't get to keep much for her self.

You can start by adding salmon/fish oil to her diet.  Biologics has an excellent line of products that we use including the Fats, Vites and Skin and Coat.   All would help bring her coat back.

What kind of food is she on? Adding some raw and/or a fish and duck based kibble would be a good idea too.   If she gets loose stool from the change in diet, you can add canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix) to her food to keep her nice and firm.

Good luck
