Question
my 20 month old puggle is pregnant the birth of her pups was estimated at dec 14 however her temp is now 99 degrees do u think the pups r coming sooner what is the usual temp of the mother when the birth is close? is it possible we can expect them in a couple of days and the original date was just wrong? or could her temp stay at 99 for the next couple of weeks

Answer
Hi Lyn

Gestation is 63 days.  If they come this early you are either wrong on your dates or she is aborting her litter.

Taking the temperature is a great idea. If you know her regular body temperature when she's not pregnant, take her temp the same time and in the same environment.

Take her temperature every day until she whelps will just annoy her and make you crazy.

Signs to watch for are, complete lack of appetite, nesting and restlessness.

Good luck.
