Question
My Golden's achieved one tie 1 1/2 years ago and she had a litter of 9.  We have since tried a year later and are trying again.  Both this time and the last heat cycle, he mounts a lot and she is very flirty and will stand for him but he doesn't seem to have the follow thorugh and the bulbus glandus does not get in there to achieve a tie.  What can I do to improve the chances for atie and getting her pregnant?  help I'm running out of time.  She very willingly stood for him yesterday (Thursday) and is still very willing and VERY excited.

Answer
Hi Claire

This may require some brute strength.  Well maybe not brute strength but some assistance from you.

When the male mounts the female, you may have to hold him in place while he is pumping so he can tie.  This works best with you sitting underneath the female.

It really is simple so don't get queered out.   Sit with your back against a wall. It helps if you are sitting on a low stool or pillows with dogs the size of Golden's.   Let the female straddle your lap, so you could easily raise or lower your knees (moving her along if need be).   When the male mounts, use your arm to help lock him closer to the female.  (You may have to hold the females head with your other arm so she doesn't dance away).

From this position you can help guide the male and hold him in place.  It really is easier to do than it sounds.

Good luck
