Question
We didnt think she was due because she had just started to look pregnant. We didnt have time to get her checked out because our trusted vet was out of town.my mom said she saw the after birth of the first puppy but then my dog got defensive and wouldnt let her near the nest. She had 4 pitt bull boxer mix puppies and she has an isse with laying on them. This is her second litter and she suffocated one last time because she laid on it. We dont know what to do i am keeping an ear out for yips from the pups and get up everytime i hear one but she is still very stressed and will not nurse for more then a few seconds.

Answer
Is she at least in a whelping box and/or in a safe area where she can be monitored?  This will greatly reduce the risk of suffocation.

If she's having her pups under the porch, you can't monitor the pups, the female and the risk for infection is greater.

If she's aggressive with her pups, you might want to consider having her fixed after this litter as temperament issues are passed to her pups.
