Question
QUESTION:
i have a yorkie and she is pregant she went into heat on the 10th of july but didnt go out till the 29th of july i was just wondering what date do u go by the one she went into heat or the one she went out and if she had the puppies soon would she and the babies be ok because she doin the nestin and layin around but the eatin part that dont count for she has eat 2 hours before she had pups before i have also given her some vanilla icecream they daid that was good for when they in more energy

ANSWER: Hi Em

Did you breed her the entire time?  Gestation is 63 days from when her eggs where fertilized.  If you breed her for the entire 19 days... it's anyone's guess.  Typically most breeders breed over the course of 5-7 days and you split the difference.

Nesting is common, and should be encouraged.  Vanilla ice cream is good during whelping because it has calcium, helps keep the female hydrated and gives her a sugar rush.  She only needs a few spoons and only if she is in actual labor.

Good luck

Answer
A few days off either way can be attributed to when her eggs where fertilized again NOT when the breeding took place.

You want to ensure that any discharge is not black or green. That is a sign of distress.

I've said it a hundred times, temperature is control by external and internal variables like laying in the sun, drinking water and cuddling. Don't get hung up on her temperature.

Patience is what's needed.
