Question
Hi,

I have owned dogs and bitches all my life but never into breeding them I now have 2 Staffies & a patterdale which came into season a week after we got her so not had a chance to neuter her,
My 2 1/2 year old Staffordshire bull Terrier has just caught my 9 month old Patterdale in the garden, we've been very careful since she came into season and kept them apart but he has found a way out a window into the garden this afternoon, we only knew when she started to scream which was so horrible and we feel so bad as we couldn't break them apart and the size difference is huge now we are terrified she might be pregnant and don't have a clue if she would be fit to have pups of this size & can't get to the vets until monday, would she be fit for having pups of this size and is there a doggy morning after pill we could give her? the poor soul is still shaking lie a leaf

Many thanks
Mel & Gerry

Answer
Hi. If two dogs are tied together after breeding, don't ever try to get them a part, you can seriously injure them. I have no clue if she would be able to safely carry/whelp/care for these puppies. This is something that you really need to discuss with your vet as he knows her history much better than I do. There is a mismate shot, but it has to be given within 48 hours at the latest from breeding. You can have her spayed now if you want. Your vet may decide to wait til after her heat cycle, but he should be willing to spay her right after it.
