Question
QUESTION: My boxer is pregnant and today is 63 days from the first time that she tied with the male. She is not showing any signs that labor is close.  No digging, heavy panting, are signs that she has lost her mucous plug.  She is still energetic maybe not as much as prior to pregnancy and still eating quite well.  She seems to be getting bigger by the day.  Her tits began to noticeably hang about a week ago.  Her vulva is now very loose looking (for lack of better words).  Please let me know what I should do.  This is not the only day that they bred so she could have gotten pregnant on a later date.

ANSWER: Hi Wendy! You kind of answered your own question. :-) You said she was bred at a later date. Count 63 days from the last breeding, and see when that due date is. A dog's pregnancy can safely go up to 65 days. If she goes one day over the 65 days from the last breeding, call your vet ASAP. I wouldn't worry too much yet. How far away is the last due date?

QUESTION: I guess that is why I am worried, I am not sure as I left her with the owners of the male boxer while I was out of town and they are not sure the last date they bred.

Answer
The stud dog owner should've kept a written record for you. That's part of being a stud dog owner. Since we don't know an exact due date here, I'd take her in to the vet to see what he thinks should happen. He may want an ultrasound, or x-ray. Boxers can have a slow labor, that's why I'm recommending you take her to the vet. How long was she at the stud dog's house? Does the stud owner know how many times they actually bred?
