Question
WE HAVE A PROBLEM. Our daughter inlaw has a bitch poodle in heat and "her own one year old boy puppy" has caught her what problems could this cause interbreeding in the same family of poodles.  PLEASE REPLY  Thanks Den.

Answer
What this will do is double up on the dogs' good points, and bad. This type of inbreeding isn't as close as it would be between brother and sister, because they would share more of the same DNA. What problems the puppies may have will depend on what's in the dogs' line. Certain health problems may show up, or unwanted conformation problems may rear their head. On the up side, if both dogs are remarkable specimens who are healthy and come from healthy lines, then she may wind up with some really nice dogs. These types of accidental breedings have produced some of the best show dogs. It really just depends on the dogs, and what's behind them in their pedigree.
