Questionmy female just had her puppies lastnight around11pm, almost 24 hrs later the runt of the litter still cannot seem to find where to suck and even after i try to help the puppy he still cant. ive tried bottle feeding him and i cant get him to suck that either. when i pull the gently on the neck of the puppy his skin doesnt go down as fast as the others and he a whole lot smaller compared to any of the other three puppies in the litter. what can i do ???
AnswerHi Hope
The reason there is a runt of a litter is because the placement in the horn. It doesn't get the same nutrition.
If he can't suck on the mother it makes sense that he can't suck a bottle either. You want to check to make sure he doesn't have a cleft palette. You need a feeding tube for best results.
The feeding tube is place in his mouth and gently inserted past his throat into his stomach.
