How many heat cycles should you wait before breeding? Does the age of the dog have any effect on her?

Hi Erica.  Most breeders, myself included, like to wait until the second heat - especially if you intend on breeding your female more than once or twice.

Yes, just like with humans, the age of the breeding dogs does have an effect on both the female and the puppies.  A dog that is too young might not be able, or willing, to care for a litter of puppies.  A dog that is too old can have complications due to other health issues.
