First litter of puppies.

One of my female pit bulls is going to have a litter in about 4 weeks. I have worked at vet clinics for years so I know the basics. My question is how big should her welping box be? It is her first litter and I want her to be as comfortable as possible.

Hi Danielle. This is how I do my boxes. Measure the dog from her withers to the floor. Add two foot. This will be how wide the box is. Then, measure the dog from her chest, to her rump. Add two foot. This will be how long the box is. I usually make the box about two, two 1/2 foot tall. Cut a place out in the front of the box, and put it on hinges. This will let you lower a section so she can comfortably get in and out. I've used these measurements for years, and they work really well. Good luck!
