Pregnant Yorkie

Question
That makes sense since they say the puppy food contains more nutrients.... So should I just keep her on her Innova small bites? Also, I have read about ppl giving their pregnant yorkie whelping pudding.  I've read about giving them boiled chicken and rice. As for the whelping box, that should just be a nice sized box with covers for her to crawl into but still accesible to me? Is she ok to be around my male yorkie until the time gets closer?

Answer
Hi Naudia

Yes, just keep her on the food she's on.  You can supplement her with chicken, heart, kidney, or liver.  Fish oil or a good all food fortifier is a good supplement to add to her kibble too.

A whelping box is important, we don't cover ours.  With a small dog you can use the bottom of a vari kennel with the top and the door off.  Until the pups are walking, this keeps them safely contained in a area and is easy to clean.

She will be fine with your male until the pups are born.  After I would advise that you keep the male away from the pups until they are least 4 weeks old.

Good luck
