giving meds to dog

Question
my dog was recently diagnosed with elevated liver enzymes. The vet recommended giving her sam-e 100mg. These pills are about 7/16 in. diameter and we were told not to cut or crush this supplement. She is part POm and Chi about 15 lbx. Help, my dog has a collapsing trachea and turns blue very fast if choking when a pill is pushed down her throat. She refuses to take this pill put into pill pocket or any other way. I know that it is very crucial for her recovery. Any suggestions for how to give this to her and also does this pill come in powdered or liquid form? thx

Answer
Hi Chris

It's always best to take your vet's advice on medication.

The easiest way to give pills is hidden in cheese or hot dogs.  I have an old girl that will spit out her dose every single day.  So we play "catch" with a hot dog.  A couple without the pill, the hidden pill, then a couple more.  She's none the wiser and the pill goes straight down.
