Question
i have a German shepherd bitch 6 yrs. old i have never matted her but know i want to mate her she is regular in her periods but last time when tried to mate her she did not respond to the male again i want to try by artificially getting her in heat and try to mate her again . let me know how i can do so with proper medicines ......

Answer
Hi Hanu

If she's never mated, I would have her progesterone levels tested (and have the sperm on the male tested too).  At her age it would be frustrating and a waste of time if she can't conceive.

When fooling around with Mother Nature, you don't want to introduce synthetics or artificial chemicals or hormones into a breeding female.  You can bring a female into season by introducing high quality food, vitamins and fish oils.  Also full-spectrum lighting will "trick" her body into thinking it's spring, which can bring on a heat cycle.

Good luck
