Heat

Hi,
I have a 7month old Siberian Husky bitch and I wanted to know what the minimum age she could be to be on heat?  There are some young dogs living near by and we would like them to play together but none are neutered or spayed and we don't want any accidents so would rather be safe than sorry.  Do we need to be careful at this age?  Thanks.

Hi Trini.  The best way to prevent "accidents" is to have your dog spayed.  Many vets are spaying as early as 16 weeks of age.  

Female dogs can go into heat as young as 5 - 6 months old.  However, like with humans, no two dogs are alike and there is really no way of knowing beforehand.
