Question
My female Ig is bred (we had her bred on Nov 1 & 3) So she is due anytime. Everything I have read online states their normal temp is in the 100+ range and to watch for a drop in temp. We started taking her temp on day 58 (99.1) and in the morning/evening everyday since day 59- 99.5 - 98.4 day 60- 98.6 and 98.6 and this morning it was 97.5....do IG's have a normal body temp over 100? I can't seem to find any information regarding that particular breed. Just last night, she started leaking milk a bit, but is still happy go lucky and eating this morning. Any advice on the temp thing or what I should be looking for? I would think going from 99.1 three days ago to 97.5 today should indicate she should deliver soon? Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you!!

Answer
Hi Julie.  In most breeds, the normal body temp is between 101 - 102.5  Once the temp drops below 100 it is a signal that delivery time is near (in some cases as soon as 24 hrs).

I am going to give you a  link to a very good whelping calendar.  All you do is type in the date your dog was mated and the calendar will print out a complete listing of what to expect on what dates.

Good luck, and please do not hesitate to contact me if you have additional questions.
