Question
Hi, This is the first time I am planning to breed a pet. I have a male and female shih tzu. The male weights at 8kg and the female is at 4.5kg. Physically the male is about twice the size of the female. It is advisable to breed? Will there be any complications during pregnancy and birth later on??

Answer
Hi Chui

Typically in any breed the males will be larger than the female.  Shih Tzu aren't a breed that is known for whelping complications however there is the possibility that she could birth a larger pup.

You will want to control the amount of food she eats (no puppy food until after she whelps).

Good luck
