Question
I have an English Bulldog that is currently pregnant by a Pit Bull. I have taken her to the Vet and discovered that she is having 7 or more pups. Is this normal for a first time mother of this breed and if so do all English Bulldogs have to have c-sections?

Answer
Hi Lisa. The 'average for the Bulldog is 5, remember though, it's just an average. About 10% of the breed are free whelpers, the majority of them needing one. Don't let her get fat, and make sude she gets plenty of exercise. You need to talk to your vet about a c-section so you'll at least be prepared. Pit Bulls are larger than the Bulldog, so that may increase your chance of needing a section, because of the size of the pups. Keep in close contact with your vet, and prepare yourself for one just in case. Good luck!
