Question
i am after for some help in finding out what to do when my dog begins to have her puppies. she was artificially inseminated by my male dog due to other problems, but is due on the 14th of November. this afternoon however, when i brought her in she went straight into her whelping box, began panting slightly, winging and a small amount (a few drops) of pinkish liquid was discharged. she  is a very voracious eater, but today she refused to eat. she is currently inside and my male is outside, but he too is winging and barking, as a result of being separated. do they need to be separated? is there anything i can do to help induce labor, or is it just a matter of waiting?

Answer
Hi Paul. It sounds like to me that that your dog is in labor. This stage can last up to 24 hours. Yes, I would keep them apart. No matter how close two dogs are, mom won't want any other dog near her puppies. You'll have to keep them apart for a few weeks. There's nothing you can do safely to induce labor. Just wait it out. Good luck!:-)
