Question
QUESTION: Hello, I have my boxer that got bred on the 2nd of June they tied ,and i am wondering cause everyone says she is fat or over weight, she not full of fat rolls are nothing she is just a solid girl. we was going on a mile walk every once in a while like maybe once every two weeks  but i am wondering cause she is a smaller boxer and weights in at @72 pounds should i still take her on that walk more often are not at all? maybe more often shorter walks? i just want her to be able to have a healthy delivery if she did take and i know over weight dogs are prone to having complications. and her dog food she eats at the moment is Alpo mixed grill come and get it. should i change her food? and if so what should i buy her? thank you for your time i do appreciate it.

ANSWER: Hi. You're right, an overweight Boxer is a dangerous whelper. We have to get that weight off of her. I would start with shorter walks at least once a day, then work on making them longer. Exercise is very important to a pregnant dog. I'm not going to lie, Alpo is not a very good dog food. If you can get your hands on Pro Plan, Diamond, or Eagle Pack, these are much better. They are more expensive, but with a good food, the dog eats less, poops less, so you come out ahead in the long run. I have some good links about dog food if you're interested.

QUESTION: YES I WOULD LOVE THE LINKS TO THE DOG FOOD. AND DO YOU THINK THAT A HALF MILE A DAY RIGHT KNOW WOULD BE GOOD OR SHOULD IT BE SHORTER? AND HOW LONG SHOULD I KEEP HER ON THE SHORTER WALKS BEFOR WE GO BACK TO OUR MILE LONG WALK?  AND I WILL SEE IF THEY HAVE THAT BRAND OF DOG FOOD IN MY AREA. THANK YOU

Answer
That sounds fine to me. Watch her, she'll tell you when she's ready to go further. If she gets tired at first, go back home, and the next day try to get a little bit further. Do this each day.

The dog food I was talking about can be found at a Tractor Supply if you have one near you. I'll send those links. Whatever you do, don't put her on puppy food.
