Question
I have a 2 year old female yorkie 7 lbs that I am trying to breed to a 4.5 lbs male yorkie.  She has bled for 11 days and is flagging her tail.  She stands for the male.  He has tried several times to copulate with her and has missed the target 3 times now.  I tried boosting him with pillows.  This is her first time breeding and his second time.  He was very successful with the first female, but she was smaller.  Is there anything I can do to help these two along?

Answer
Hi Laurel:

If possible, try using a small ramp of some kind but make sure it's got a really good, secure flooring surface. As much as the two "lovebirds" will allow, try to leverage her into a down-hill facing position & if the ramp has a steep enough incline it may help to provide him with the height advantage he needs. Also if permitted you can try using your hands & when he's mounting, use one hand to push him up & slightly forward - it's easiest to accomplish this placing your hand flat under his tail (remember you can always wash up later! LOL) while using the other to help guide him as much as he'll allow toward the target. I hope this helps in some way & please let me know how things progress - I wish you the very best of luck!
