Question
I would like to breed my Newfoundland female. At what age should I start? I have heard a couple of different opinions on this and would like some sound advice.

Answer
Hi! Well, I always suggest waiting until the dog, male or female, is atleast two years old. That way, it can finish growing, and also so you can have all of it's health tests done before breeding. I do know that your breed is known for irregular ovulation, so you may want to do progesterone testing to save yourself a lot of aggravation. They can also be long, slow whelpers, so you'll have to keep a good eye on her to make sure that her labor doesn't stop and she still has pups inside of her. If I can help in any way, let me know!
