1st litter

Hi, My bitch has just had her first litter,they are now 36 hrs old she is very protective of them but does not seem to be lying and allowing them to suckle, i have bottle fed 1 this morning as it was away from her and was cold and listless,she livened up and I have put her back with Mum, mum pushes the pups off the teats with her back leg, is this normal with a first litter? what should I do?

you may have to sit with her for her to feed them for a few days. dont let her be so overprotectivethat you cant go near the pups. cause in an emergency you may have to grab a pup from her. also, feed her some calcium(cottage cheese, cheese). does she feed them when nobody is in the room? it can be normal for a first time mom to do this to her pups so you just need to stick it out and even hold her down if you have to. how old is she? i hope this helps and if you can answer those questions i can give you a better idea of what might be going on.
